On October 27th the Emerson community had the rare opportunity to experience a live dissection of the human brain! The event was hosted by the Department of Communication Disorders.  Associate Professor Vinoth Jagaroo conducted the dissection, and explained the process usually takes up to three days, but he demonstrated it in a mere two hours.  The dissection took place in Emerson’s Semel Theater and was accompanied by slides the enhance regions of the brain and the dissection was projected on to a large screen so the audience was able to see every cut and scrape.  Jagaroo used a blunt dissection technique for much of the time – using a tongue depressor to scrape away layers to show unique views of different structures.  Assistant Professor Ruth Grossman commented, “I thought the dissection was a fantastic opportunity for students and faculty to see some of the high-caliber science faculty showcased.  And the dissection itself was simply too cool for words!”  Laughter broke out at one point when Professor Jagaroo was pointing to a diagram and a piece of brain fell off of his instrument and onto the floor – he declared
